I just finished Douglas's Penny Plain...Awesome! I just finished Douglas's Penny Plain and that book gave me the Anne Shirley Green Gables' feel too. The "everyone knows everyone in small towns -- and we mostly get along but with a few skirmishes now and then". It's too bad Douglas's work isn't better known! I only found out about Penny Plain from another blogger's top 10 reads of 2020, and it was just as cozy and heart-warming as I wanted. All of her books seem to be about the getting of a house and making of a home, and most of them feature an adored small boy who is brought into the family. I find it quite sad really as the author who never married obviously longed to have a wee boy of her own to love, but she had to make do with fictitious boys.
