WWW Wednesday: November 18, 2020

It’s Wednesday, so it’s time to take a look at what I’ve read, what I’m reading, and what I’m planning on reading.  This was inspired by Taking on a World of Books.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?

What did you recently finish reading?

What do you think you’ll read next?

I just finished Geekerella by Ashley Poston which is a delightful YA novel.  One night recently I emailed a friend that I was annoyed with myself for not being disciplined about going to bed before midnight.   Then, confirming my lack of discipline, about 12:30 am, I picked up Geekarella, got into my cozy bed, and started reading.   I literally had to force myself to turn off the light at about 2:30 am!   This is a retelling of the Cinderella story about a blogger who lives and breathes Starfield, the classic sci-fi series she grew up watching with her late father.   When she starts texting anonymously with another fan of the show, she doesn’t realize it’s the young actor chosen to play the lead in a new movie – about whom Elle has been extremely critical!   Elle’s desired ball is at the Starfield Convention where fans will dress up as their favorite characters . . .   So much fun (although the evil stepsisters almost made me cry).

I’m currently reading Go, Went, Gone by Jenny Erpenbeck for my Book Group which is meeting tomorrow night.   Translated from German, it’s about a solitary retired professor who seems to have interests, friends, or purpose until he encounters some refugees and becomes involved in their lives, undergoing a transformation himself.   I have not got very far; thank goodness it is my turn to pick the next book!

Next up is The Searcher by Tana French.   I didn’t like her last book Witch’s Elm and wish this were another book about her Dublin Murder Squad instead of a standalone but I am looking forward to it.   I like this quote from EW: Tana French has a new book on the way. She promises it's less depressing.   I can’t tell you much about what it’s about because I am avoiding spoilers but I know it features an American character.  Here is the New York Times review

Has anyone watched the Starz adaptation of her first two books?   If so, what is the verdict?

I have only read the Dublin Murder Squad mysteries, all except two of them. I have Witch Elm but will probably not read it soon. I will be interested in what you think of The Searcher, although I also try ot avoid spoilers in advance of reading.
