Spell the Month in Books – May 2022

Can you #SpelltheMonthinBooks? What books would you use?
Spell the Month in Books is hosted by Reviews From the Stacks and occurs on the second Saturday of each month. I don’t know how long I can keep this up if the letter Y is involved but here is May with three books I have reviewed:

Message from Absalom by Anne Armstrong Thompson (1975) – This is a romantic suspense thriller in the tradition of Helen MacInnes and Mary Stewart that was recommended by Susanna Kearsley. The heroine has left the CIA for a healthier career in antiques but when a former colleague contacts her, she is suddenly, dangerously under scrutiny by the KGB.   My review.
Another Brooklyn by Jacqueline Woodson (2016) – Woodson is a New York Times bestselling author, National Book Award winner, Newbery Honor recipient, and MacArthur Fellow who writes for adults and young people. This is fiction but based on the author’s adolescence as a black teen in Brooklyn. My review.
Yours Cheerfully by AJ Pearce (2021) – This is the nearly-as-good sequel to Dear Mrs. Bird, in which Emmy Lake, longing for a career as a war correspondent instead obtained a job as the assistant to an advice columnist. In this book, Emmy befriends women working in WWII munitions factories and advocates for better working conditions for them while continuing to navigate friendships, romance, and her work at Women’s Friend magazine. My review.
I don't think I will have time for an installment of this meme in June but maybe in July!

Yes, I think you're going to be otherwise engaged in June! Shame, because it has no Y in it. LOL!

I don't know any of your authors, but the books sound interesting. So, thanks for choosing them.

And thanks for visiting my Spell the Month in Books post. It's always nice to exchange ideas with other readers.

Whatever you are planning for June, best wishes.
